The method

How the fleet size is calculated

The calculator uses a simple shuttle model that planners can check by hand:

  1. Time per one-way leg = trip time + loading and waiting time.
  2. Legs per cart per hour = 60 ÷ time per leg.
  3. Passengers per cart per hour = seats × occupancy × legs per hour.
  4. Carts in service = peak passengers per hour ÷ passengers per cart per hour, rounded up.
  5. Total fleet = carts in service plus the reserve for charging and maintenance, rounded up.

The model assumes demand is spread across the hour and carts run in both directions. If demand is one-directional, such as arrivals at an event, enter the return trip time in the loading field.

Which carts for which job

Match seats to the job: 4-seat carts for guest transfers and golf, 6 and 8-seat carts for resorts and communities, and an electric sightseeing bus for tours and large groups. See the cart finder to choose a model, or carts for resorts and hotels.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

How many golf carts does a resort need?

It depends on peak passenger demand, route length and cart capacity, not on room count alone. Use the calculator with your busiest hour, your average trip time and the seats per cart, then keep a reserve for charging and servicing.

What is a sensible reserve for charging and maintenance?

Many operators keep 10 to 20 percent of the fleet in reserve so carts can charge and be serviced without leaving a gap in service. The calculator defaults to 15 percent; change it to match your own routine.

What occupancy should I assume?

Few trips run full. A planning figure of 60 to 80 percent of seats is common for scheduled shuttles; use a higher figure for event or tour groups that travel together.

Does the calculator work for communities and golf courses?

Yes. Enter the residents or players you need to move in your peak hour, the length of the typical trip and the seats per cart.

Can Finns Auto help plan a fleet?

Yes. Send your site details and our team will recommend a mix of models and an Annual Maintenance Contract for the fleet.
