How range and charging time are calculated
- Battery energy (kWh) = voltage × amp-hours ÷ 1000.
- Usable energy = battery energy × depth of discharge.
- Range (km) = usable energy × (1 − reserve) ÷ (Wh per km ÷ 1000).
- Runtime (hours) = range ÷ average speed.
- Charger power (kW) = charger volts × amps ÷ 1000.
- Charge time (hours) = usable energy ÷ (charger power × efficiency).
- Cost per charge = usable energy ÷ efficiency × electricity price.
Worked example: a 48 V, 100 Ah lead-acid battery stores 4.8 kWh. At 50 percent depth of discharge that is 2.4 kWh usable. At 100 Wh per km with a 15 percent reserve, range is about 20.4 km. A 48 V, 15 A charger delivers 0.72 kW, so replacing 2.4 kWh at 85 percent efficiency takes about 3.9 hours and costs about AED 0.99 at AED 0.35 per kWh.

Frequently asked questions
How far can an electric golf cart go on a charge?
Range = usable battery energy ÷ energy use per km. Usable energy is battery voltage × amp-hours × usable depth of discharge. The calculator does this for you and applies a reserve margin so you do not plan to run flat.
How long does it take to charge a golf cart?
Charging time = energy to replace ÷ (charger power × efficiency). A 48 V battery with a 15 A charger has about 0.72 kW of charger power. Larger chargers and lithium-ion batteries can shorten the time. See the charging guide.
What depth of discharge should I use?
Planning values are about 50 percent for lead-acid and gel batteries and about 80 percent for lithium-ion. Discharging lead-acid deeper shortens its life. Check your battery maker data sheet.
Does UAE heat reduce range?
Heat ages batteries faster, and air conditioning or heavy loads raise energy use. Use a higher Wh per km figure and a larger reserve margin for hot-weather and air-conditioned operation, and park in shade where you can. See the battery guide.
Can I use this for any electric cart or utility vehicle?
Yes, if you know the battery voltage, amp-hours and an energy use figure. Real consumption changes with load, speed and ground, so treat the result as a planning estimate.
